Skiing/Snow Shoeing

Under Construction.

Equipment:  Paragon Sports in NYC sells snowshoes and skis, at a slight premium to account for the NYC real estate.  You can also buy them online - good websites are REI and Back Country.  Locally, Ski Haus (Brewster) sells xc equipment.  One important note about buying xc skis:  They are different than downhill skis in that they don't have a universal binding system; the bindings can be either nmm (new nordic norm) or sns (salomon nordic system) and then can be either classic or back country or skate.  So unless you are buying an entire package, before you buy new boots or skis, be sure to double check that everything matches up.

For those interested in downhill skiing, there are a couple of ski areas close enough to Gipsy Trail for day trips: Thunder Ridge; Mohawk Mountain
